Real Madrid - Atletico Madrid

Final
 Stadio San Siro Guiseppe Meazza
 25°C
Referee: Mark Clattenburg
Linesman: Simon Beck
Linesman: Jake Collin
4th Official: Stuart Burt

As Madrid derbies go, the stage does not get much bigger than the Champions League final, and it will be the second time in three years that Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have gone head to head for the coveted European trophy.

Real were triumphant in the 2014 final in Lisbon as they earned a 4-1 victory after forcing the clash into extra time.

Diego Simeone's men will be looking to exact revenge at the San Siro in Milan on Saturday evening, and if successful, they will be crowned European champions for the first time while also denying Zinedine Zidane's team from sealing the club's 11th European title.

Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid - the facts

  • Real Madrid have reached the Champions League/European Cup final for the 14th time, more than any other team. They have won 10 of those - also a record - including their past four (1998, 2000, 2002, 2014).
  • This is the third time in the past four years the Champions League final has been contested by teams from the same nation (Germany 2013, Spain 2014, Spain 2016).
  • Including 2016, Madrid has now made 17 appearances in the Champions League/European Cup final (14 for Real, three for Atletico), more than any other city (Milan has 16).

The Blues will be eager to ruin the fantasys of one of their rivals, however, and knocking Tottenham Hotspurs out of the head race for perfect with a gain of their own wanna be a giant feather in their cap, a high note in what's largely been a dismal year for the former EPL champions. They'd be ill-pleased to hand this year's head to Leicester City in such a manner, but that bitter pill wanna be greatly sweetened by making sure that Tottenham  don't find a way to gain it themselves.

There was a risk we wanna never reach this stage. After Tottenham Hotspurs dropped points rivalry West Bromwich Albion last week, a Leicester City triumph at the weekend wanna have made them champions, rendering Monday's London derby a dead rubber.

Instead L.City drew 1-1 at Old Trafford to leave them eight points clear at the top with two matches remaining, making it game on at Stamford Bridge.

Tottenham Hotspurs have 3 games left and must take maximum points—and even that might not be enough if Leicester City remain undefeated. The White Hart Lane club's task on Monday is made that bit harder by the fact they haven't gained at Stamford Bridge since 1990.

Date: Monday, 2 May

Time: 8 p.m. BST/3 p.m. ET

Venue: Stamford Bridge, London

TV Info: Sky Sports 1 ( UK only)/NBC Sports (U.S. only)

After a frustrated year,The Blues admirers will take pleasure in denying Tottenham Hotspurs any form of success this year. The teams have a bitter rivalry dating back to the 1960s, and the feeling now is that whatever happens at Stamford Bridge, Monday's match is just going to add to it.

Chelsea fans, Tottenham Hotspurs fans and neutrals alike should be in for a treat.
